Germany Drops Biofuel Plans

BERLIN – APRIL 07: A sign announces biodiesel, or ethanol, at a gas station that sells gasoline as well as biofuels on April 7, 2008 in Berlin, Germany. The German government recently cancelled plans to double the amount of ethanol to 10% in gasoline sold nationwide, which would have helped to reduce the country’s volume of CO2 emissions. In a recent press conference Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel cited the resulting increase in gasoline prices and the inability of up to 3 million cars in the country to accept the new blend as reasons, though critics dipute his figures.
